I woke this morning with a heavy heart as I listen
to the radio about who killed who
I sat staring out my window...my mind wandering
back to my childhood..I smiled
Everything was safe back then
Mama would be in the kitchen and daddy in his chair
Us kids all gathered around him as he took turns tickling
us to make us laugh..we didn't have a care

There was no screaming or fighting...no guns appeared
Walking down our street after dark..we kids never gave
it a second thought
Manners were taught and church a must...
we lived with no fears
Happiness filled our hearts

How I wish that for my childern...and their children
Can we turn the winds of time...move back the hands on
that old grandfather clock?
Is it too late or have the people heard the cries of despair
Do they see the look of sadness on their child's face
Who will answer when they hear them knock...
Please pray that we can undo the damage done and hearts
can be repaired
Give each other comfort of knowing we the people...
really still do care!
